For students who would like an additional year to prepare for a successful college experience, Oxford Academy offers a program of individualized instruction geared toward building confidence.
Mission Statement
Within a culture of mutual trust and respect, where teachers and students are partners in education, The Oxford Academy challenges each young man to reach his potential through individualized learning experiences that encourage self-awareness and a growth mindset.
In 1906, the founders of Oxford Academy established a school inspired by Socrates’ teachings, adopting his words “Know Thyself” as its motto. Inspired by and modeled after Oxford and Cambridge Universities’ mentoring pedagogies, Oxford’s one-to-one classroom incorporates the Socratic method characterized by an active, personal approach to inquiry and critical thinking. Our boys participate in a dialogue during each class to cultivate their voice and intellect.
Students have the time and space to think, to understand, to use initiative and to express themselves with confidence. Today’s iteration of the Oxford Method honors the original with a customized course of study that meets each student where he is through engaging coursework and stimulating dialogue. Students engage actively with their teachers, and develop a confident voice as partners in their learning. Classes are paced according to student needs and we offer both support and acceleration where appropriate. Pedagogically, this is a high-value education that is truly individualized, incorporating authentic learning and assessment.
