Personalized Education at Oxford Academy

Learning at Oxford

Two men sit at a desk in an office, with a laptop open in front of them. Both are smiling and facing the camera. The office has various decorations and papers on the walls. Oxford Academy’s Director of College Guidance Chris Mcgrath, works closely with students to empower them to traverse the college admissions process. College representatives routinely recruit students through campus visits during the school year providing the opportunity for students to speak directly to admissions professionals. Mr. Mcgrath guides students as they consider a range of options at Oxford, guides students in building their application, and helping them choose the path that suits them best. The College Counseling with Mr. Mcgrath process focuses on three fundamental principles.

1. This is your journey: We are here to provide guidance and encouragement along the way, as you take ownership of your future and your education.

2. Find the right school for you: It is easy to get lost in rankings and reputation. Let’s find the school or program that is the right fit to give you the best chance of finding academic and social success after Oxford.

3. Let’s get started: When you are ready to focus on the college search, we will be there for you (typically midway through your Junior year). From identifying schools, setting up rep visits at Oxford and college trips and interviews, creating an effective and uniquely personal statement, filling out and revising your applications, picking the right school and considering financial aid and scholarship opportunities- we will be there to help you through each step of the process.

Oxford also offers a 5-week Summer College Search Program to those who have completed their junior year in high school. This is an excellent opportunity for rising seniors to solidify their list of schools, complete their applications, write the personal essay, visit college campuses, and prepare for standardized testing.

In March Oxford honors our soon-to-be graduates at the 100 Nights until Graduation Celebration. Seniors are roasted by Mr. LaSota and presented with thoughtful, personalized gifts by a faculty member of their choosing. During the event, graduates are officially inducted into the Alumni Association by a member of our Notable Alumni. One deserving community member is chosen for the Student Ambassador award. Finally one senior is presented with the J. Bradley Allen ’13 Leadership Award for his outstanding leadership while at Oxford.
