Since the 1906 beginning of Oxford Academy in New York City, one motto has been consistently used and promoted to all the students who attend:  KNOW THYSELF.  That is why it is fitting that in our 120th year we continue to ask students to Know Thyself and we ask our supporters to rally behind that charge and help us continue for another century by giving to this campaign.  Donations may be restricted for any phase below and given through our Giving website page.  If you have any questions, please contact Phil Cocchiola, Head of School or Faith Asselin, Director of Development and Alumni.

This campaign will benefit the entire Oxford community with much-improved campus facilities and a growing endowment to secure our future.

Knight Hall Music Studio Addition

Construction of a 715 SF music addition to the existing Donald Miller Study Center.  While the space will be directly connected to the Study Center, provisions have been proposed to acoustically separate the two spaces.  It is also envisioned that the program may use electronic keyboards and other quieter musical applications, with the option for louder instruments when the Study Center is not being actively used.  The interior of the space has good acoustical proportions, and the walls will also have acoustical treatment.  A green screen area will also be included so that video work can be done, especially for small theatrical productions.  From a campus aesthetics standpoint, the approach is to enhance the existing Knight Hall with additions and exterior material changes that reflect a New England appearance.  The Music Studio Addition will be the first element to incorporate the new exterior image for Knight Hall.

 Knight Hall Entry Addition

Construction of a 2,100 SF addition with a new Reception, that will create a more secure entry to the building, a Lobby/Display Area that will highlight Oxford, Faculty Workroom, and Head’s Office on the main level.  A stair will lead to an upper mezzanine level with a College Resource Room/Study Area located in the bay which is the center element of the addition that will overlook the Campus Green.  A major feature of the exterior is covered porches providing additional outside student seating that will also engage the Campus Green.  Renovation of 750 SF for an expanded Lobby and consolidated Wellness Center that will include both the Nurse and School Clinician.  

Knight Hall Exterior Enhancements:

Replacement of existing siding at building facades and a new gable roof over the center portion of the Donald Miller Study Center to extend the image established by the Music Studio and Entry Addition projects over the entire building.  This project will also look to enhance the insulation of the original building to make it more energy efficient.

 Corthouts Gym Exterior Enhancements:

Reconstruction of the building facades to enhance the facility and provide natural light to the interior.  This will also make the building more energy efficient through the installation of additional exterior wall insulation.  Corthouts Gymnasium is the first main campus building that a visitor sees when entering the campus on the main entry drive.  As a metal building, it is very functional but not very aesthetically pleasing.  Changing the metal panels to provide a New England appearance while adding natural light to the interior space will be a major upgrade.

Synthetic Turf Athletic Field/Lighting:

Reconstruction of the existing soccer field to create a premier regulation field with lighting. The existing soccer field is slightly below the dimensions for a regulation field.  The proposed new field will be 165 ft wide by 300 ft long with 10’ run-off around the perimeter.  This is the largest field that can be installed given site limitations of the existing Knight Hall and adjacent regulated wetlands.  The National Association of State High School Associations (NFHS), the governing body for high school soccer in the US, recommends the range of 165 to 240 ft in width by 300 to 360 ft in length, so the new field will fall within these dimensional parameters.  The proposal for field lighting will increase the hours that the field can be used.

Endowment

Endowments and donations are two different ways an organization can receive funding.  An endowment is a permanent fund that’s usually invested and generates income that’s used to support an organization’s mission.  A donation is a one-time gift that may be used immediately by the recipient or kept for a specific purpose.

Income from Endowment Investments at Oxford Academy would be used for:

1. Teacher Salaries and Professional Development
2. Housing
3. Deferred Maintenance
4. Technology
5. Scholarships

An endowment gift would:

1. Solidify every one of our programs now and for the foreseeable future.
2. Help us navigate dips in the economy
3. Provide a competitive salary and benefits for faculty and staff
4. Market and increase our presence among schools, consultants, and the independent school world
